Unexpected Friday

So, on Wednesday Lia took a little tumble. She walked right in front of Ava, while she was swinging, and unfortunately got kicked down. Thankfully we have the "playground" mulch, which is supposedly softer for falling kids. She settled down quite quickly and came out with only a scratch on her lip.
The next day, Lia took another little tumble. This time she was holding hands with Gramma when she tripped over her own shoes. Gramma was holding one hand, but her other hand instinctively went out in front of her to break her fall - and that she did. Again, she settled down quickly and seemed to be fine. When she woke up from her afternoon nap though I knew something was wrong. She was walking around, playing, interacting with Ava, but only using ONE hand. She avoided her right hand at all costs. I thought that maybe she had slept on her arm funny and it had fallen asleep- ya know, that wierd, numb, tingling feeling? Anthony got home from work and she was still favoring it. He thought it looked a little swollen, but Lia was being sooo good. She wasn't crying. She wasn't even flinching when Anthony tried to move her elbow or hand. So we figured we'd wait it out till morning and then call the doctor.
So this morning we went to get x-rays. Then found out she had a buckle fracture in two places in her wrist. Unfortunately there were no orthopoedic doctors that were available to see her (due to her age, and the fact that it was Friday, and summertime and everyone is overbooked). So we had to go to the after hours clinic to get a temporary splint. Next week we'll see the orthopeodic doctor and get a little cast for her.
There was a LOT of waiting around in doctor's offices today. I'm so thankful that the girls were so patient, happy, and easily amused.

Outside of the imaging center where we had to get x-rays. See her right arm just hanging? :(
Photobucket This picture looks a lot more rough than it really was. Ava was gently hugging Lia.

A little swollen right above her wrist.

We spent almost two hours at the pediatrician's office. Eventually Ava had to pretend like she was the patient and Daddy was the doctor.

Photobucket Little Lia, ready to go in to yet another doctor for her splint.
Photobucket And here it is. Listening to directions from the doctor...
Photobucket Getting a little bit curious.
Photobucket When we say, "where is your boo-boo?" she shows us her arm (wrist).

Oh sweet little Lia! That little splint/soft cast is the saddest thing on her tiny little arm. Her outfit and bow though are fabulous and totally make up for it. What a strong little trooper she is, first a black lip then this! Poor baby girl! Hope she feels better soon :)
