This past weekend one of my very best friends came to visit. And she brought her adorable little guy to play with my little girls. Rather than joining in the girl/baby talk, Anthony kept busy with work and friends of his own. We spent our days meeting the needs of our kids: dressing them, feeding them, cleaning them, playing with them, laughing with them, and creating some fun memories with them.

And we spent our evenings sipping sangria and catching up. Even though I was sitting on the couch in my living room looking past toys and listening for sleeping baby noises, I still felt as if I was talking to her like I used to years ago in our dorm rooms.

We created quite a spectacle in most places we went.

We packed ourselves and three kids into the van. (Yes, I am still baffled sometimes when I realize that I'm not in college any more. I am officially a married-minivan-mom of two.) Ava was happy to let Conor sit in her car seat while she got to sit in the very back row of the van in the extra car seat that Daddy installed just for this occasion.

Inevitably there was a trip to Target where we tried to keep our one-year-olds happy by letting them out of the cart to walk around. Which led to the discovery of a messy diaper. And I'm quite sure we left a trail of cheerios from the baby section to the bathroom to the dollar spot to the toys and then back to the snacks.

But the highlight of the weekend was the trip to the beach. We were outnumbered 3 to 2, but we were organized. We had chairs, and an umbrella, and snacks, and sunblock, and hats, and drinks, and toys, and towels, and cameras. We lucked out with a nice close parking spot, settled down right next to a lifeguard tower, and spent at least two hours playing in the sand and the water. It was almost perfect. Until the clean up. Sand...was...everywhere. I think I might leave the naked-baby-diaper-in-the-shower story to Nicole.

This kind of weekend - with a best friend, talking about old stories and making new ones - is rare, but oh so special.

I love this post! I am so glad I made it on to YOUR blog ;) We are still two fat peas in a pod. I am so glad our paths crossed at Florida Southern and we haven't, and will never, lose that bond. Thanks for a fabulous weekend, complete with laughs so hard they made us cry, as usual!
